Identity and postcards for the Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow
Peter Soloway for RedSquareDesign and Channel One. The identity of Eurovision 2009 in Moscow is built around the Firebird: its rainbow plumage spreads across the logo, outdoor ads, transport, T-shirts and merchandise, from bracelets to a matryoshka USB stick.
For the broadcast: an ident for the Final with giant letters flying over Moscow, and 42 postcards introducing the participating countries. The camera flies through a collage of each country’s symbols, then pulls back to reveal that it is all the hairdo of the heroine, Miss World 2008 Ksenia Sukhinova. Every postcard signs off with a Russian word in Latin letters and its translation: VALENKI, GAGARIN, DAVAI-DAVAI!
Stage
The stage set for the Olimpiysky Arena draws on the traditions of Russian Constructivism. A transformable structure with a multitude of multimedia screens changes shape even mid-performance, giving every country’s act a space of its own.
Plus the Green Room and themed overtures opening each day of the contest.
